Our day began with the students writing in their journals. They wrote about what they would do if they could fly. We reviewed suffixes and how to use see/saw correctly. We took our spelling test and corrected our DLP. We got through three centers today. After centers, we took our reading test on Abuela. During Science, we watched a short video on erosion, the students also completed a workbook page about erosion. After lunch, we had silent reading. In Math, we reviewed and took the chapter test. The students had Gym and then we went outside for celebration day! If your student plans on attending the “Sock Hop” next Thursday, please sign and return the permission slip.

Friday--Miss Calderone's Class

Today we began our day correcting our D.L.P. We then completed 3 centers right away. After that we learned a new cursive letter; G. I thought this would be tough but the students did very well! We then took our spelling test. After spelling we practiced using the glossary to find Spanish words and translate them to English. We then played pictionary/charades to help us review the vocabulary words for they story. Our morning ended taking the reading test. After lunch our mystery reader came in and read us two great stories as we ate birthday cupcakes! What a great way to start the afternoon! We then switched for math and reviewed chapter 26. We finished math taking our chapter test. After math we had music and we ended the day with celebration day. Today was our special celebration day for filling up our Good Character Jar so we went out to play and had Popsicles! Yum!

The homework for the weekend is to read at least 20 minutes a day. Also Monday we will be taking our MAPs reading test after lunch. Please make sure your child gets a lot of rest Sunday night and eats a very healthy breakfast! See you Monday!

Thursday in Mrs.Bognetti's Room

We started our day finishing up our “Theme 2” test. We had a bus evacuation drill today. The students were very well behaved on the bus. In Literacy, we reviewed our vocabulary and our word wall words. We completed a spelling practice sheet. We also made a list of –air and –are words. We got through two centers today. We had book buddies with the fourth graders. After lunch, the students read Harry Potter. In Math, we looked at different combinations we could make using three different number. Both classes have homework. We will have our chapter 27 Math test tomorrow. We will also have our Reading test on Abuela. In Science, we continued to discuss erosion. The students made a chart about the various things that cause rocks to break apart. The students ended their day with Music. If your student plans on attending the "Sock Hop" please sign and return the permission slip.

Thursday-Miss Calderone's class

Today we began our day correcting our D.L.P. and writing in our April journal. We used the word wall words to write sentences and then shared what we wrote. Before we finished we had a bus evacuation drill. The students did a great job listening to the bus driver. When we came back we had snack and learned a new cursive letter; F. We then partnered up and did an Abuela scavenger hunt. We looked through the story and found the vocabulary words, plural nouns, and Spanish words! After that we independently finished a grammar sheet and then finished the morning with 3 centers. After lunch we read Harry Potter and then switched for math. We reviewed probability and then practiced making lists of numbers. We finished math playing some probability games on the Internet. We had a lot of fun! We then had science. We reviewed erosion and made a web on the board about ways that rocks can erode. We then practiced erosion by rubbing rocks against sand paper. We watched as the rocks got smaller from the rubbing of the sand paper. Our day finished with P.E.

The homework for tonight is to read Abuela and study for the test, finish your spelling packet and study for the test, and also complete math 26-4 and study for the math tests. Lots of tests tomorrow but everybody will do fine! Also please remember to turn in your sock hop form and yearbook form if you plan on going.

We had another very busy day today! In Literacy, we reviewed our controlled vowels and our spelling words. We re-read Abuela in small groups and the students did a scavenger hunt. Some students did not finish the scavenger hunt in class, so I assigned it as homework. We were scheduled to have an assembly today, but it has been re-scheduled for sometime in the future. We got through two centers today. In Social Studies, we finally finished our Washington D.C posters. The groups will be finishing up their paragraphs and presenting next week. They all worked very hard and the posters look great! After lunch, the students had some time to read silently. In Math, we continued learning about probability and predictions. Both classes have homework. In Science, we did an experiment about erosion. The students always enjoy doing the experiments! There is Science homework tonight. Tomorrow we will have a bus evacuation drill at 9:30.

Wednesday--Miss Calderone's class

Today our day began with correcting our D.L.P. and then we jumped right into centers. After completing 3 centers we took our Post-Theme test. We then learned a new cursive letter; E! The students did such a nice job being quiet and working hard that we got to have 10 minutes of free time before social studies! They then cleaned up so fast that we were ready in no time! Our morning ended with our Washington D.C. groups. We actually finished our posters! The only thing left, for some groups, is to type their paragraphs. Wow! After lunch we read Harry Potter for a bit and then switched for math. We continued working with probability and focused on predicting today. We made predictions about how many times a flipped coin would land on heads and tails. We also made predictions about a colored spinner. We completed some workbook pages together and then worked in partners to predict how many times we would roll a 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, or 6. Many of our predictions were right! After math we went to library and finished the day with our book buddies.

The homework for tonight is to read Abuela, complete Math 26-3, and return the Sock Hop form (if you plan to attend!). Remember to turn in those yearbook order forms if you would like to purchase one!

Tuesday--Miss Calderone's class

Today our day began writing in our journal and correcting our D.L.P. After sharing we learned the vocabulary for the story. We then got together with a partner and completed a grammar sheet that involved the verbs see, saw, give, and gave. We corrected it together and then read Abuela. We then completed 3 centers. Our morning ended in our Washington D.C. groups. We're almost finished! After lunch we switched for math. We reviewed probable, certain, and impossible and then learned most likely, less likely, and equally likely. We used colored cubes in bags to talk about the probability of picking a certain color. Together we finished some pages in our book and then it was time to go! Art was next and we finished the day with science. We went over the answers to a science page from last week and then read chapter 2 about erosion. We will discuss erosion more this week. Science ended with a short movie.

The homework for tonight is to read Abuela, math 26-2, and science pg. 133/134.

Tuesday in Mrs. Bognetti's Class

We had a very busy day today! We started our day writing in our journals. We also began taking our theme two reading test. We reviewed the controlled vowels and our spelling words. We read Abuela. The students really liked talking about their grandmother's and other family members. We got through two centers today. There is a spelling page for homework. In Math, we continued learning about probability. Both classes have homework. We learned the upper case cursvie E and F. The students ended their day with Art.

Monday--Miss Calderone's room

Today our day started out with Music and P.E. When we came back we corrected our D.L.P. and shared what we wrote in our April journals. We then learned the two chunks for this week: -air and -are (both make the "air" sound). We partnered up with other students and made a list of words with the chunks on white boards. We regrouped and shared what we came up with. We then took our spelling pretest and finished the morning with one center. After lunch we got back our reading and math tests and wrote in our assignment sheets. We then switched for math. Today we started our probability unit. We learned the words certain, probable, and impossible. I put colored cubes in a bag and the students answered probability questions about different colored cubes. We then completed some workbook pages independently and corrected them together. The students worked so fast that we had time in class to do our homework AND correct it together! We ended the day with our Washington D.C. groups. We are almost finished!

The homework for tonight is to sign the reading and math tests and also complete math 26-1 (remember some finished in class).

Monday in Mrs. Bognetti's Room

We started our day with Gym and Music. During Literacy, we learned about the sounds -air and -are. We had our spelling pre-test and put up our word wall words. We reviewed the proper way to use see, saw, give and gave. We got through one center today. After lunch, we read some more of Harry Potter. In Math, we switched classes. We started chapter 26, which is about probability. Miss Calderone's class does not have homework, but my class does have a one sided worksheet. In Social Studies, we went to the computer lab and started typing our paragraphs for our Washington D.C projects. The Reading tests will be sent home tomorrow, due to the fact some students still had to take it today.

The pictures have been turned in, but there are still a few people who did not return the proofs. If you have not already, please send them with your student tomorrow.

Thursday in Mrs.Bognetti's Room

We started our day writing in our journals. In Literacy, we reviewed V/CV words. We reviewed both our spelling words and our vocabulary. We discussed using details when writing. We got through three centers today. We also learned the upper case cursive C and D! After lunch, we read a story about Earth Day. In Math, we continued learning about fractions. We reviewed for our test tomorrow. In Science, we saw the results from our experiment! The students ended their day with Music. There is Math and Science homework tonight. We have a Spelling, Reading, and Math test tomorrow. Tomorrow is also the last day to turn in picture money. If you are not buying the pictures, you need to return the proofs.

Wednesday in Mrs. Bognetti's Class

Today we had a very busy day! In Literacy, we reviewed the suffixes –er and –est. We also learned about shape poems and reviewed our spelling words. We reviewed our vocabulary from Chinatown. We finished DLP one through six. The students re-read Chinatown in small groups. After lunch, we read Harry Potter. In Math, we learned about “greater than” and “less than.” My math class should only be doing the “practice” side of their homework. In Science, we did an experiment about evaporation. We will be able to see the results tomorrow! There is a two sided Science sheet for homework. We will be learning more about the water cycle on Friday. After Science, the students went to the LRC. There was not a “parent signature” stamp on the reading tests. Most parents signed it anyway. If you did not sign it already, please sign and return it tomorrow.

Wednesday--Miss Calderone's class

Today our day began correcting our D.L.P. and writing in our journal. After sharing we partnered up and practiced writing our spelling words using a white board. We then learned how to make a cursive B. We spent some time practicing and then began our shape riddles. We picked an object and then made a web of words to describe that object. After we were done we drew the picture on a white piece of paper very lightly. We then used our web to create sentences and then replaced the lines of the object with our sentences. Essentially the object will be outlined with sentences that describe it. After working on that for some time we completed 3 centers. We finished our morning working with our Washington D.C. groups. After lunch we read Harry Potter and then had math. We reviewed making fractions from groups and then learned about comparing fractions. We did some examples together and then completed some on our own. After math we went to library and finished the day with our Book Buddies.

The homework for tonight will be to read Chinatown, complete math 25-6 (students in Mrs. Bognetti's math may have finished it), and remember to bring in picture and yearbook order forms if you choose to purchase! Tomorrow is Earth Day! Remember to wear green and blue!

Tuesday in Mrs. Bognetti's Class

This morning we reviewed our phonics pattern and spelling words. The students have one page of spelling homework. We introduced the vocabulary words and watched a Power Point presentation. We read the story Chinatown and discussed the story elements. We completed one center before Social Studies. We continued to work on our Washington, D.C. projects and received more mail from our nation's capitol! The projects are looking great! After lunch, we switched classes for math and worked on fractions of a group. We briefly talked about reducing fractions, as well. The students have one page of math homework. We learned the capital cursive A and B today. At the end of the day, the students went to art class.

Monday--Miss Calderone's Class

Today the day started right away with music and P.E. When we came back we corrected our D.L.P. and wrote in our April journal. After sharing our journals we reviewed the suffixes for this week's spelling list: -er and -est. This is a review for us so many students did very well on the spelling pretest. After correcting the spelling words we learned a new cursive letter; the uppercase A. It was super easy! We then reviewed the verbs am, is, are, was, and were and learned three new verbs: has, have, and had. We discussed whether the verbs were past or present and then partnered up to complete a grammar sheet. We corrected it together and finished the morning with one center. After lunch we read Harry Potter for a bit and then switched for math. We continued reviewing fractions today. The students are really doing very well. After math got into our Washington D.C. groups. We worked in the computer lab and in the classroom to finish our posters and write our informational paragraphs.

The homework for tonight is to sign the grade reports and the reading test, complete math 24-5 (my math class only), and read Chinatown. Also, continue bringing in picture forms/packets and yearbook money if you want to order!

I introduced the spelling words, which all have -er and -est at the end. We got through one center today. After lunch, we had some time for silent reading. In Math, we continued to learn about fractions. Miss Calderone's class has homework. In Social Studies, the students worked on their Washington D.C projects. Friday--Miss Calderone's class

What a fast day! Today started by correcting our D.L.P. We then jumped straight into centers. After completing the last 3 centers we took our spelling test. Today we started on regular lined paper. We learned about where to put the heading and what to put in the heading. We're getting ready for third grade! After the spelling test we wrote back to our pen-pals. Many students finished with enough time to draw a picture for their new friend. We finished the morning reviewing for the reading test by playing pictionary/charades and then taking the test. After lunch we read Harry Potter and then switched for math. We reviewed fractions and then practiced making fractions by making fraction pizzas! We got together with a partner to complete the sheet. Many didn't finish so the rest is homework. During math we also had a lock down drill. The students did an excellent job of staying down and being very quiet. After math we went to music and finished the day with celebration day. We went outside for a bit and enjoyed the nice weather.

The homework for the weekend is to read 20 minutes or more per day, complete the math page assigned to your class, and bring in your picture forms and yearbook order forms (if you choose to order). Have a great weekend!

Thursday in Mrs.Bognetti's Room

Our day began with a review of the words with the gh, ph (f) sound. The students completed an activity that helped reinforce this concept. We worked on our DLP, vocabulary, and word wall words. We got through three centers today and were able to use the computers to watch Brain Pop videos about the human body to study for our Science Test. After reading Anthony Reynoso again, we watched a Discovery video about real cowboys. We reviewed the parts of the human body and their functions. After lunch we read Harry Potter. In math, we continued learning about fractions. Both classes have math homework. At the end of the day, the students went to music class. Tomorrow we have a Reading, Spelling and Science test tomorrow.

Thursday--Miss Calderone's class

Today our day started with correcting our D.L.P. and writing in our April journal. After sharing we got together with partners to complete a vocabulary sheet and then did a spelling word sort (we put words with -gh and -ph into correct columns). After correcting that we made petroglyphs! We drew symbols to represent sentences on brown construction paper and then crumpled up the paper to make the "ancient" effect. After that we reviewed verbs and sentences in the past and present. We finished literacy completing 3 sentences. Our morning ended with social studies. We watched a movie about our country and had some very yummy birthday treats! After lunch we read Harry Potter for a bit and then switched for math. We reviewed fractions and learned about whole fractions. We worked independently in our book, went over the answers, and then broke into partners to complete fractions that represent groups. The students did an excellent job! We then had science. We read a Time For Kids about tornadoes and had a wonderful discussion. Our day ended with P.E.

The homework for tonight is to complete the spelling packet/study, read Anthony Reynoso/study, math 25-2, and bring in your pictures/picture order forms.

Wednesday in Mrs. Bognetti's Class

Today in Literacy we re-read Anthony Reynoso in groups. We worked on subject-verb agreement. The students have a scavenger hunt and spelling worksheet for homework. We got through three centers today. During Social Studies, we worked on our Washington D.C projects. The groups are doing a nice job working together. Their posters are really coming along! After lunch, we read more about Washington D.C. In math, we started chapter 25, which introduces fractions. Both classes have math homework. In Science, we took some notes and started to review for the test on Friday. The test will cover body parts and their functions as well as what happens to our bodies when we exercise. At the end of the day, the students went to the library.

Wednesday--Miss Calderone's class

Today we started our day correcting our D.L.P. and using the word wall words to write sentences in our April journals. After sharing we got together with a partner and completed an Anthony Reynoso book scavenger hunt! We found the vocabulary words, contractions, and proper nouns. After correcting that we learned about summarizing. We practiced identifying important sentences and combining important details. We then completed 3 centers. Our morning ended with social studies. We got together with our Washington D.C. groups and continued working on our posters. After lunch we read Harry Potter and then had math. We began our unit on fractions! The students were confused at first, but caught on very quickly. We even had extra time to work on our homework in class. After math we went to library and finished the day with our book buddies!

The homework for tonight is to finish the math facts packet, read Anthony Reynoso, and complete math 25-1.

Tuesday in Mrs. Bognetti's Class

This morning we reviewed our vocabulary and our spelling words. We cut out letters and made the spelling words. We read Anthony Reynoso and learned about roping. We watched a video of a roper so the students could see how difficult it is! In Social Studies, we worked on our Washington D.C projects. After lunch, we read more of the Washington D.C book. The students took their chapter 24 math test. The students made some very neat pictures in Art! There is no homework tonight.

Tuesday--Miss Calderone's class

Today our day started out writing in our April journal and correcting our D.L.P. After sharing we learned the vocabulary for the new story and read Anthony Reynoso: Born to Rope together. We had a great time discussing the story. After that we reviewed past and present verbs and then independently completed a grammar sheet. We corrected it together to make sure we understood it. We then worked hard to finish 3 centers. Our morning ended with social studies. We got together with our groups and worked a little more on our projects. After lunch we switched for math right away. We reviewed subtracting hundreds with regrouping and took our test. We went to art after that and finished the day with science. We did a neat experiment that had us running in place for one minute and then we used our knowledge of the human body to think about what parts we used while running.

The homework for tonight is to read Anthony Reynoso and work on that math packet!

Monday--Miss Calderone's class

Today we started right away with music and P.E. When we came back we corrected our D.L.P. and wrote in our April journal about what we did over the weekend. After sharing we learned about the new chunks for the week; ph- and gh- (both make "f" sound). We identified the chunks in a poem and then took our spelling pretest. After correcting the words together we learned about past and present verbs: am, is, are, was, were. We talked about which ones mean the present and which mean the past and then independently completed a worksheet. We finished the morning completing one center. After lunch we read Harry Potter and then switched for math. We spent the math period practicing triple digit subtraction. Tomorrow will be the test so please make sure to practice at home! After math we got into our Washington D.C. groups. Some groups spent time in the computer lab researching facts while the other groups worked on their illustrations.

The homework for tonight is a math page/Study and get the reading test signed. The spring pictures went home today. Whatever you do not intend on buying please send back to the school. If you do take any pictures you must pay for them by filling out the form and bring that and the money to school. If you have any questions please email or call me!

Our day started with the students going to gym and music. We went over our new spelling words and we added new words to our word wall. We are working with words with the -gh, -ph (f) sound. We got through two guided reading groups today. Tomorrow we will read the story Anthony Reynoso: Born to Rope. After lunch, we read a story about Washington D.C. In math, both classes worked on three digit subtraction. Mrs. Bognetti's class began doing some word problems. Both classes have homework tonight. After math, we worked on our Washington D.C projects. They are coming along nicely! The students were sent home with their spring portraits. Please send the appropriate amount of money, if you wish to purchase pictures. Otherwise, please return the pictures to school.

Friday--Miss Calderone's room

Today our day began correcting our D.L.P. and writing in our April journal. Shortly after that Mr. Langman visited us to talk about the Wesley Expectations. A pamphlet went home along with a sheet that needs to be signed and returned stating that you have read it. We then completed 3 centers. After that we learned a new vocabulary word: immense. We filled out our vocabulary packet with the new word. We took our spelling test and reviewed for the reading test by playing pictionary/charades using the vocabulary words. The rest of the morning was spent taking our reading test. After lunch we read Harry Potter and then switched for math. Today we continued to practice triple digit subtraction so we spent the entire math reviewing and practicing. Music was followed by math and our day ended with celebration day! We looked at some pictures of our pen pals and read the letters they sent us! We'll write back next week!

The homework for the weekend is to read and sign the Wesley Expectations and Mrs. Bognetti's math class has math 24-4 for homework.

Friday in Mrs. Bognetti's Room

Our day began with the students writing in their journals about starting a band. We did all three centers today. We had our spelling test and our reading test on Max Found Two Sticks. In Science, we read about the human body. We did some movement activities to locate where our joints are in our body. The students really enjoyed doing the movements! After lunch, we read a little more of Harry Potter. In Math, we continued working on three digit subtraction. After gym, we went to the playground to celebrate how hard we have all worked this week! Mrs. Bognetti's math group has one worksheet for homework. Miss Calderone's group has no homework.

Thursday--Miss Calderone's class

Our day began correcting our D.L.P. Today was actually like a Monday so we had music and P.E. right away. When we came back we began working on our final draft for our spring poem. After that we learned our final lowercase cursive letter; z. Next we're moving onto the uppercase letters! Most things will be written in cursive so the student learn how to read in cursive. We then completed 3 centers to finish the morning. After lunch we read Harry Potter for a bit and then switched for math. We reviewed what we learned yesterday and then learned how to regroup from the hundreds place. We practiced and practiced and practiced. The more practice the better. The one thing I noticed is that students really need to work on those math facts! They should be practiced every night. After math we went to social studies. We met with our Washington D.C. groups in the Media Center, found a picture of the building we are drawing, and then began drawing! The students did an awesome job :)

The homework for tonight is to read/study Max Found Two Sticks, spelling packet/study, math 24-3, and finish your spring final draft if you didn't in class. There should be some big, bold, and beautiful illustrations!

Wednesday in Mrs. Bognetti's Class

This morning we reviewed words with -ew and -ui and practiced writing sentences using some of those words. We completed a workbook page in class. We made some of our spelling words using letters and finished our spelling homework in class. After that, we discussed our vocabulary words, read them in context, and completed a workbook page. Then, we re-read the story Max Found Two Sticks in groups. We corrected 3 sentences of DLP and talked about verbs written in the past tense. Then, we completed two centers/guided reading groups. In Science we added some organs to our human bodies that we started in groups. We watched a BrainPop video on the Circulatory System and added veins and arteries to our bodies, as well. After lunch, we read some more of Harry Potter. In math, we learned to subtract 3-digit numbers with regrouping in the tens column. The students do have one page of homework. In Social Studies, we opened up some mail that was received from Washington, D.C.! The students were so excited. We got some posters, bookmarks, and great facts to use for our project. At the end of the day, the students went to the library.

Wednesday--Miss Calderone's class

Today our day started out correcting our D.L.P. and writing in our April journal. We then learned about past tense verbs and independently finished a grammar sheet. After that we had a severe weather drill and when we came back we learned how to write an acrostic poem. We completed one on summer together and then the students began making a rough draft for one on spring. Tomorrow we will write and illustrate our final copy. After that we finished 3 centers. Our morning ended with social studies. Some students got some mail back from Washington D.C.! We opened the mail and then watched a slide show on some pictures I took when I visited Washington D.C. last year. After lunch we read Harry Potter for a bit and then had math. We reviewed double digit subtraction with regrouping and extended that to include triple digit subtraction. We practiced and practiced and practiced! After math we went to library and finished the day with science. We finished our human bodies and worked to solve some riddles about different organs in our body.

Tuesday in Mrs. Bognetti's Class

This morning we wrote in our journals and then shared what we had written. Then we listened to a poem called New Fruits which introduced us to words with ui and ew. We did some pages in the reading workbook. We had a lot of Word Wall words to alphabetize and put on our wall. Next, we took the spelling pre-test. There is a spelling worksheet for homework. After snack and washroom break we made a web of neighborhood sounds and looked at a Power Point which introduced the vocabulary words for the week. We listened while Mrs. Bognetti read our story for the week, Max Found Two Sticks. Then we had our reading groups.
Miss Calderone's class came to our room and we were divided into groups to choose our Social Studies projects on Washington D.C. It will be fun to work with students from her class in our groups. This afternoon we did three digit subtraction in Math. then we learned two new cursive letters, x and y. Finally, we went to art at the end of the day.

Tuesday--Miss Calderone's Room

WELCOME BACK! Today was a very fast day! We started off right away correcting our D.L.P. and writing in our April journal about what we did over spring break. After sharing we learned the new chunks for the spelling list and identified them in a poem. We then took our spelling pretest and corrected it together. After that we learned a new cursive letter; v. We only have one more letter! We then learned the new vocabulary words for the story and read Max Found Two Sticks together. After that we had time for only one center. We finished the day with social studies. We got together with our new Washington D.C. groups and figured out which important Washington D.C. place we will be researching. After lunch and recess we headed into math right away. Today we started learning about triple digit subtraction. We learned how to do it as a group and independently completed some pages in our math book. We had some time to correct it together. After math we went straight to art and then came back for science. We continued working on our human bodies. We drew in veins and arteries and also glued on some more organs. I'm hoping to be done tomorrow!

The homework for tonight is to sign the math, reading, and social studies tests, read Max Found Two Sticks, and complete math 24-1. Also, continue working on that math packet due next week!
