Tuesday in Mrs. Bognetti's Class

This morning we wrote about how it feels to be left out. We discussed how sad it is to be left out and how we can be good friends to include others. The character in our story this week, Wilson Sat Alone, spends time alone because he does not know how to make a friend. We discussed strategies on how to help him. Then, we talked about how an author can show a character's feelings. We also reviewed words with -at and -ate. We wrote some words with that pattern in our Quick Words. We cut apart letters to build our spelling words. Then, we had some time to work on our spelling homework, but it does need to be checked over or finished tonight to be turned in tomorrow. We completed our DLP and analyzed some sentences together, looking for subjects and predicates. This afternoon, we read Harry Potter. After, we took our Science Test. In math, we worked with Fact Families. We did finish our work in class.

Then, we used ten frames again to help us add and subtract 7's and 8's in math class. The students have one page of math homework. I told them they could draw a ten frame at home and use cereal, M&M's, paper clips, whatever, to use as manipulatives. In Social Studies, we read about states and capitals. We will be starting an Illinois booklet on Wednesday which will carry over into the computer lab as well. We practiced geography skills today. Then, at the end of the day, we quickly reviewed the vocabulary words for the science test tomorrow. Everyone should have brought their books home to study from tonight! Thanks for helping!

We did a lot of work in a short time today! We reviewed words with -ed. We completed our DLP and reviewed how to find the subject of a sentence. We talked about homophones (words that sound the same but are spelled differently and mean different things). We took our spelling and reading tests. We reviewed volcanoes, landslides, and earthquakes and talked about Mt. Vesuvius and Pompeii. We watched a brainpop video to show examples of each. We did a worksheet together showing the parts of a volcano. Then, to review the parts of a friendly letter (and because the copier was down), we wrote you a letter explaining that we have a Science test next Tuesday on weather and the water cycle, erosion, and volcanoes, earthquakes, and landslides. Please help your child study by re-reading the lessons and practicing the vocabulary words. Have a great weekend!

Friday in Mrs. Bognetti's Room

We learned how to take tests today! We took our first spelling test and then our first reading test. I do not record the first reading test because the students are just getting used to the format of the test and are learning how to stay in their seats, raise their hands for questions, and silent read when they are done. We also practiced centers today. I did not collect any of them, as again, we are still practicing what to do. We read with our Book Buddies. This afternoon, we took our first math test. We read a booklet about the water cycle and completed a worksheet together. At the end of the day, we celebrated our good behavior by going outside and playing at the park. Have a wonderful three day weekend! The only homework is to read our new poem, as well as practice last week's poem, to someone at home AND I have sent home next week's spelling and vocabulary words, in case you want to get a jumpstart on studying those.
