Today our day began correcting our D.L.P. and writing in our April journal. Shortly after that Mr. Langman visited us to talk about the Wesley Expectations. A pamphlet went home along with a sheet that needs to be signed and returned stating that you have read it. We then completed 3 centers. After that we learned a new vocabulary word: immense. We filled out our vocabulary packet with the new word. We took our spelling test and reviewed for the reading test by playing pictionary/charades using the vocabulary words. The rest of the morning was spent taking our reading test. After lunch we read Harry Potter and then switched for math. Today we continued to practice triple digit subtraction so we spent the entire math reviewing and practicing. Music was followed by math and our day ended with celebration day! We looked at some pictures of our pen pals and read the letters they sent us! We'll write back next week!
The homework for the weekend is to read and sign the Wesley Expectations and Mrs. Bognetti's math class has math 24-4 for homework.

Friday in Mrs. Bognetti's Room
Our day began with the students writing in their journals about starting a band. We did all three centers today. We had our spelling test and our reading test on Max Found Two Sticks. In Science, we read about the human body. We did some movement activities to locate where our joints are in our body. The students really enjoyed doing the movements! After lunch, we read a little more of Harry Potter. In Math, we continued working on three digit subtraction. After gym, we went to the playground to celebrate how hard we have all worked this week! Mrs. Bognetti's math group has one worksheet for homework. Miss Calderone's group has no homework.
Have a nice weekend!

Thursday--Miss Calderone's class
Our day began correcting our D.L.P. Today was actually like a Monday so we had music and P.E. right away. When we came back we began working on our final draft for our spring poem. After that we learned our final lowercase cursive letter; z. Next we're moving onto the uppercase letters! Most things will be written in cursive so the student learn how to read in cursive. We then completed 3 centers to finish the morning. After lunch we read Harry Potter for a bit and then switched for math. We reviewed what we learned yesterday and then learned how to regroup from the hundreds place. We practiced and practiced and practiced. The more practice the better. The one thing I noticed is that students really need to work on those math facts! They should be practiced every night. After math we went to social studies. We met with our Washington D.C. groups in the Media Center, found a picture of the building we are drawing, and then began drawing! The students did an awesome job :)
The homework for tonight is to read/study Max Found Two Sticks, spelling packet/study, math 24-3, and finish your spring final draft if you didn't in class. There should be some big, bold, and beautiful illustrations!

Wednesday in Mrs. Bognetti's Class
This morning we reviewed words with -ew and -ui and practiced writing sentences using some of those words. We completed a workbook page in class. We made some of our spelling words using letters and finished our spelling homework in class. After that, we discussed our vocabulary words, read them in context, and completed a workbook page. Then, we re-read the story Max Found Two Sticks in groups. We corrected 3 sentences of DLP and talked about verbs written in the past tense. Then, we completed two centers/guided reading groups. In Science we added some organs to our human bodies that we started in groups. We watched a BrainPop video on the Circulatory System and added veins and arteries to our bodies, as well. After lunch, we read some more of Harry Potter. In math, we learned to subtract 3-digit numbers with regrouping in the tens column. The students do have one page of homework. In Social Studies, we opened up some mail that was received from Washington, D.C.! The students were so excited. We got some posters, bookmarks, and great facts to use for our project. At the end of the day, the students went to the library.
Wednesday--Miss Calderone's class
Today our day started out correcting our D.L.P. and writing in our April journal. We then learned about past tense verbs and independently finished a grammar sheet. After that we had a severe weather drill and when we came back we learned how to write an acrostic poem. We completed one on summer together and then the students began making a rough draft for one on spring. Tomorrow we will write and illustrate our final copy. After that we finished 3 centers. Our morning ended with social studies. Some students got some mail back from Washington D.C.! We opened the mail and then watched a slide show on some pictures I took when I visited Washington D.C. last year. After lunch we read Harry Potter for a bit and then had math. We reviewed double digit subtraction with regrouping and extended that to include triple digit subtraction. We practiced and practiced and practiced! After math we went to library and finished the day with science. We finished our human bodies and worked to solve some riddles about different organs in our body.
The homework for tonight is math 24-2, read Max Found Two Sticks, and finish your spring poem rough draft.

Tuesday in Mrs. Bognetti's Class
This morning we wrote in our journals and then shared what we had written. Then we listened to a poem called New Fruits which introduced us to words with ui and ew. We did some pages in the reading workbook. We had a lot of Word Wall words to alphabetize and put on our wall. Next, we took the spelling pre-test. There is a spelling worksheet for homework. After snack and washroom break we made a web of neighborhood sounds and looked at a Power Point which introduced the vocabulary words for the week. We listened while Mrs. Bognetti read our story for the week, Max Found Two Sticks. Then we had our reading groups.
Miss Calderone's class came to our room and we were divided into groups to choose our Social Studies projects on Washington D.C. It will be fun to work with students from her class in our groups. This afternoon we did three digit subtraction in Math. then we learned two new cursive letters, x and y. Finally, we went to art at the end of the day.

Tuesday--Miss Calderone's Room
WELCOME BACK! Today was a very fast day! We started off right away correcting our D.L.P. and writing in our April journal about what we did over spring break. After sharing we learned the new chunks for the spelling list and identified them in a poem. We then took our spelling pretest and corrected it together. After that we learned a new cursive letter; v. We only have one more letter! We then learned the new vocabulary words for the story and read Max Found Two Sticks together. After that we had time for only one center. We finished the day with social studies. We got together with our new Washington D.C. groups and figured out which important Washington D.C. place we will be researching. After lunch and recess we headed into math right away. Today we started learning about triple digit subtraction. We learned how to do it as a group and independently completed some pages in our math book. We had some time to correct it together. After math we went straight to art and then came back for science. We continued working on our human bodies. We drew in veins and arteries and also glued on some more organs. I'm hoping to be done tomorrow!
The homework for tonight is to sign the math, reading, and social studies tests, read Max Found Two Sticks, and complete math 24-1. Also, continue working on that math packet due next week!
