Friday--Miss Calderone's Class

Today we began our day correcting our D.L.P. We then completed 3 centers right away. After that we learned a new cursive letter; G. I thought this would be tough but the students did very well! We then took our spelling test. After spelling we practiced using the glossary to find Spanish words and translate them to English. We then played pictionary/charades to help us review the vocabulary words for they story. Our morning ended taking the reading test. After lunch our mystery reader came in and read us two great stories as we ate birthday cupcakes! What a great way to start the afternoon! We then switched for math and reviewed chapter 26. We finished math taking our chapter test. After math we had music and we ended the day with celebration day. Today was our special celebration day for filling up our Good Character Jar so we went out to play and had Popsicles! Yum!

The homework for the weekend is to read at least 20 minutes a day. Also Monday we will be taking our MAPs reading test after lunch. Please make sure your child gets a lot of rest Sunday night and eats a very healthy breakfast! See you Monday!

We had book buddies with the fourth graders. After lunch, the students read Harry Potter. In Math, we looked at different combinations we could make using three different number. Both classes have homework. We will have our chapter 27 Math test tomorrow. We will also have our Reading test on Abuela. In Science, we continued to discuss erosion. The students made a chart about the various things that cause rocks to break apart. The students ended their day with Music. If your student plans on attending the "Sock Hop" please sign and return the permission slip.

Thursday-Miss Calderone's class

Today we began our day correcting our D.L.P. and writing in our April journal. We used the word wall words to write sentences and then shared what we wrote. Before we finished we had a bus evacuation drill. The students did a great job listening to the bus driver. When we came back we had snack and learned a new cursive letter; F. We then partnered up and did an Abuela scavenger hunt. We looked through the story and found the vocabulary words, plural nouns, and Spanish words! After that we independently finished a grammar sheet and then finished the morning with 3 centers. After lunch we read Harry Potter and then switched for math. We reviewed probability and then practiced making lists of numbers. We finished math playing some probability games on the Internet. We had a lot of fun! We then had science. We reviewed erosion and made a web on the board about ways that rocks can erode. We then practiced erosion by rubbing rocks against sand paper. We watched as the rocks got smaller from the rubbing of the sand paper. Our day finished with P.E.

The homework for tonight is to read Abuela and study for the test, finish your spelling packet and study for the test, and also complete math 26-4 and study for the math tests. Lots of tests tomorrow but everybody will do fine! Also please remember to turn in your sock hop form and yearbook form if you plan on going.

We had another very busy day today! In Literacy, we reviewed our controlled vowels and our spelling words. We re-read Abuela in small groups and the students did a scavenger hunt. Some students did not finish the scavenger hunt in class, so I assigned it as homework. We were scheduled to have an assembly today, but it has been re-scheduled for sometime in the future. We got through two centers today. In Social Studies, we finally finished our Washington D.C posters. The groups will be finishing up their paragraphs and presenting next week. They all worked very hard and the posters look great! After lunch, the students had some time to read silently. In Math, we continued learning about probability and predictions. Both classes have homework. In Science, we did an experiment about erosion. The students always enjoy doing the experiments! There is Science homework tonight. Tomorrow we will have a bus evacuation drill at 9:30.

Wednesday--Miss Calderone's class

Today our day began with correcting our D.L.P. and then we jumped right into centers. After completing 3 centers we took our Post-Theme test. We then learned a new cursive letter; E! The students did such a nice job being quiet and working hard that we got to have 10 minutes of free time before social studies! They then cleaned up so fast that we were ready in no time! Our morning ended with our Washington D.C. groups. We actually finished our posters! The only thing left, for some groups, is to type their paragraphs. Wow! After lunch we read Harry Potter for a bit and then switched for math. We continued working with probability and focused on predicting today. We made predictions about how many times a flipped coin would land on heads and tails. We also made predictions about a colored spinner. We completed some workbook pages together and then worked in partners to predict how many times we would roll a 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, or 6. Many of our predictions were right! After math we went to library and finished the day with our book buddies.

The homework for tonight is to read Abuela, complete Math 26-3, and return the Sock Hop form (if you plan to attend!). Remember to turn in those yearbook order forms if you would like to purchase one!

Tuesday--Miss Calderone's class

Today our day began writing in our journal and correcting our D.L.P. After sharing we learned the vocabulary for the story. We then got together with a partner and completed a grammar sheet that involved the verbs see, saw, give, and gave. We corrected it together and then read Abuela. We then completed 3 centers. Our morning ended in our Washington D.C. groups. We're almost finished! After lunch we switched for math. We reviewed probable, certain, and impossible and then learned most likely, less likely, and equally likely. We used colored cubes in bags to talk about the probability of picking a certain color. Together we finished some pages in our book and then it was time to go! Art was next and we finished the day with science. We went over the answers to a science page from last week and then read chapter 2 about erosion. We will discuss erosion more this week. Science ended with a short movie.

The homework for tonight is to read Abuela, math 26-2, and science pg. 133/134.
