Wow! What a wonderful greeting this morning to be presented with so many beautiful flowers! Thank you for the many pictures, flowers, etc...I DO feel appreciated! This morning we talked about words with oo and ou, but sound like the short vowel u. We practiced using these words and introduced our new spelling words as well. The exciting moment this morning was when we learned how to write on notebook paper, as we prepare for third grade! The students were so enthusiastic! We learned how to head it properly and number it as well. Then, we completed our DLP and talked about the present and past tense forms of come and run. We completed two guided reading groups/centers as well. In Science, we learned about habitats. We worked in groups on a couple of worksheets that included pictures of animals from our science books. In math, we started learning about probability. We discussed the words probable, certain and impossible. Both classes finished the work in class. In Social Studies, we learned about Westward Expansion. We talked about Lewis and Clark, Sacajawea, and Thomas Jefferson. We made a vocabulary card and wrote lists of items we would bring with us in a covered wagon if we were pioneers. At the end of the day, the children went to gym class.
Don't forget to mark down Celebration of Learning Night this Thursday at 6pm. Drop by and see all of the work your child has been doing in second grade, including our Washington, D.C. projects! See you there!
