Tuesday in Mrs. Walter's room

Today we started out working in journals. We wrote about what made us special. It was fun because we got to learn that some of our friends play a musical instrument, some of our friends speak another language, some of our friends feel that they are special because they are a good friend. After journal writing we practiced some phonics then dove into our reading series. We re-read The Mixed Up Chameleon and answered lots of questions about the story. The students still couldn't stop laughing. After that we got to go to the computer lab. After computer lab we caught up on some miscellaneous things. After lunch/recess we had an assembly in the gym regarding PBIS. That was a lot of fun. Then we got started in math. We worked on math skills for quite awhile. We will have a short quiz tomorrow that reviews simple addition and subtraction. After math we finished outlining our science chapter together about water and the water cycle. We ended our day by introducing social studies. We talked about living in a community and the rules and laws surrounding it. I can't believe we got through that much today. Wow. Keep practicing those spelling words. We have a test on Friday in spelling and in reading.

Tuesday in Mrs. Bognetti's Room

We started our day by writing in our journals, as usual. The students are starting to remember our new routine! Then, we reviewed words with -id and -ide. We started a spelling paper in class, but the students need to finish it for homework tonight. It should be returned tomorrow. We re-read the story Mixed-Up Chameleon in groups. Then, we completed two more sentences of DLP and discussed characteristics of sentences (capital leter, punctuation and it must make sense). We completed a workbook page together. The students went to gym and LRC today. After lunch, we went to an assembly and played a Jeopardy game to remind the students how to be SAFE, RESPONSIBLE, and RESPECTFUL at Wesley School. In math, we practiced solving addition and subraction story problems. We talked about how the words "in all" tell us to add and the words "are left" tell us to subtract. The students have one page of math homework. In Social Studies, we read about neighborhoods and learned how people must follow laws. We talked about different signs we see in neighborhoods and then each child chose one to make. We can't wait to show you them on Curriculum Night, September 15th.

Monday in Mrs. Walter's room

On Monday we read The Mixed Up Chameleon. The students couldn't stop laughing. We practiced our spelling words for the week. In science we talked about the water cycle again and learned how to outline the chapter. We ended our morning by going to music class. In math class we reviewed counting by 2's, 5's and 10's. We also worked on simple addition and subtraction and some story problems. We have started reviewing PBIS. This week we will be focusing on arrival and dimissal behaviors.

Monday in Mrs. Bognetti's Room

This morning was busy! We accomplished a lot of "firsts"...we started by reviewing the -id and -ide phonics pattern. We completed a workbook page together. We also received a "Quick Words" booklet, which is like a mini-dictionary. We wrote some -id and -ide words in it. Then, we practiced spelling some of our weekly words with magnetic letters on the board. We completed a spelling workbook page in class. Then, we introduced our vocabulary words. We talked about what each word means. After, we used the vocabulary words in sentences. We discussed main ideas and supporting details. Also, we read our story of the week, Mixed-Up Chameleon. We completed two sentences of DLP, as well. In Science, we re-read our lesson on Weather and completed our Lesson 1 outline together. I taught the students how the questions correlate with the sections of the lesson in their books. When we start the next lesson, the outline will be assigned for homework. After lunch, I read some of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone to the class. Then, we practiced finding sums and differences in math class. First, we practiced in our math journals, then in our workbooks, and then we even went outside and wrote math problems with chalk outside! We then came in and took a timed-test on our addition math facts and completed a worksheet. We learned about the different centers we will be working on in Reading. And, at the end of the day, the children went to gym class. It was a great day!

This afternoon, we read a book called The Big Orange Splot. Then, we decorated "houses" to make them represent us and our dreams, just like the main character in the story.
