Thursday in Mrs. Bognetti's Class

We made as many words as we could out of the letters in THANKSGIVING this morning in our journals. Then, we read a book about Thanksgiving in the past, compared to now. We made a Venn Diagram showing the ways Thanksgiving then was the same or different from now. After, we made a booklet about Thanksgiving. We watched a video about the journey on the Mayflower and the first Pilgrims. We visited the library, too. After lunch, we learned more about how to read clocks. Most students do have math homework, but Mrs. Barrett's math class does not. At the end of the day, we went to music and gym class.

Remember tomorrow is an early release day due to conferences. I look forward to meeting with some of you tonight!

Wednesday in Mrs. Bognetti's Class

We started off our morning by making a list of Thanksgiving foods in our journals. Then, we took the 5 most popular foods (turkey, mashed potatoes, corn, bread, and pie) and voted on which one was our favorite. We recorded our votes on a pictograph! Since we were on the topic of food, we decided to write paragraphs to help you know how to cook a turkey. Look out! There were some very interesting ideas on how to cook one! After gym and music, we did centers/guided reading. After lunch, we continued to learn how to tell time. Most students do have homework. In Social Studies, we learned abou producers and consumers. We read about how farmers grow apples and send them to factories or stores to be sold. Then, we looked at pictures of oranges and put them in order to show how they become orange juice. In Science, we reread our lesson about animals' needs. Then, we completed a worksheet on food chains. The students have one page of science homework.

We reviewed words with -our this morning. We also practiced writing proper nouns. We took our reading and spelling tests. Our 4th grade book buddies read with us and we did centers/guided reading. This afternoon, we finished our unit on money. We took a test as well. On Monday, we will start learning about time. In Social Studies, we finished our landform models. They look great! At the end of the day, in honor of our good behavior and our story, Lemonade for Sale, we made and drank lemonade! Next week is a theme testing week and therefore there are no spelling words to practice this weekend.

I have to apologize...most students went home WITHOUT their Student Learning Profiles. I was able to track down the bussed students and a couple of walkers, but the rest of the students will receive their report cards on Monday. It was a crazy end to the day and the envelopes sat on my desk! I look forward to meeting all of you next week at conferences.

Thursday in Mrs. Bognetti's Class

We had a crazy day! It started off normally...we practiced our spelling words (worksheet for homework), talked about synonyms, and drew pictures of our vocabulary words when suddenly, the power went out! It was difficult to focus after that, but we managed to complete two centers/guided reading groups and we listened to a story from the library aide. This afternoon, we continued using money and counting coins in math. Most of us have homework. We went to gym and music and took a timed test at the end of the day. We have a reading and spelling test tomorrow!

Wednesday in Mrs. Bognetti's Class

This morning we wrote about things we like to make, bake, or cook in the kitchen. It was quite interesting! The children have spelling homework. We re-read the story in small groups and worked on a scavenger hunt. We completed two centers/guided reading groups. Tuesday in Mrs. Bognetti's Class

Now that the sugar-highs have worn off, we had to muster up some energy for our busy day. We learned about words with -our, wrote some in our Quick Words, spelled some words, and finished with a spelling worksheet that needs to be finished tonight. Then, we learned our vocabulary words for the week and practiced them. We talked about story elements and read Hedgehog Bakes a Cake. If you have time this week for your child to help you in the kitchen, a great lesson would be for your son or daughter to help read the recipe and prepare a meal. We found out what happens when characters do not follow the recipe! We talked about proper nouns and capitalization of names. The students have a workbook page to finish for homework. In math, we continued learning about money and counting coins. Most everybody has math homework. At the end of the day, we presented more dioramas and reviewed for our science test. Please re-read the pages for Chapter 6 and practice the vocabulary words, too!
