Friday in Mrs. Bognetti's Room

We had a very busy morning! We started off the day writing in our journals. We reviewed the “oo” sound and did our last practice book page! We corrected our DLP. We took our Spelling test. We got through one center today. We took our Reading test and our Math test. After all of our tests, we went to Miss Calderone’s room to auction off the Washington D.C projects! After lunch, we celebrated by reading Harry Potter and going to the playground. The student’s good behavior throughout my time here earned them some popsicles! We ended our day with an awesome assembly about animals. There is no homework this weekend. I want to thank all of the families for the generous gifts I received. I really enjoyed working with these students! I will miss them all very much and I am looking very forward to starting my career as a teacher!

Friday-Miss Calderone's class

What a fast day! We started out our day correcting our last D.L.P. We then finished our last 3 centers, took our last spelling test, and took our last reading test! Our morning ended learning the cursive letter W. After lunch we read Harry Potter for a bit and then had math. We reviewed multiplication and division and then took our last math test! We are officially done with tests! After math the third graders came and visited us and gave us invitations to third grade! They did such an awesome job; we really liked it. We then went to an assembly and finished the day watching a Magic School Bus video about dinosaurs.

The only homework is to read at least 20 minutes each day (even Monday!) and sign the social studies, math, and science tests. Have a great long weekend and see you Tuesday!

Thursday in Mrs.Bognetti's Room

We started our day writing in our journals. We reviewed syllable patterns and our spelling. We did two practice sheets. We reviewed our vocabulary. We discussed making predictions. We reviewed homophones and corrected our DLP. We did a grammar sheet to practice making contractions. We got through three centers today. We had book buddies with the Fourth graders. After lunch, we had silent reading and enjoyed some treats to celebrate the people who have birthdays in the summer. In Math, we continued learning about division and reviewed for tomorrow’s test. There is math homework tonight. We have a Math test, Reading test and Spelling test tomorrow.

Thursday--Miss Calderone's class

Today we started our day correcting our D.L.P. and studying for our Social Studies test. We completed 3 centers right away and then moved onto literacy. We started by learning the cursive letter V. After practicing for a bit we completed a scavenger hunt for Ruth Law Thrills a Nation. We found the vocabulary words, words that end in -ed, and 3 problems that Ruth faced in the story. We went over the answers together and then wrote a postcard! We pretended we were on vacation and wrote a letter to a person of our choice. They turned out really neat! Our morning ended taking our social studies test. After lunch we switched for math right away. We reviewed multiplication and division because tomorrow is our math test! After math we went to the computer lab to take a practice AR test! Our day ended with P.E.

The homework for tonight is to read Ruth Law/study, complete the spelling packet/study, and the students also have a math sheet/study.

Wednesday in Mrs. Bognetti's Class

We started our day writing in our journals. We reviewed our phonics and our spelling. We did our DLP and learned more about contractions. We watched a short movie about Amelia Earhart. We re-read Ruth Law Thrills a Nation. We got through two centers today. There is a scavenger hunt for homework. There is also a spelling practice sheet for homework. In Science, we learned about endangered and extinct animals. Tomorrow we are taking the chapter 6 Science test. There is Science homework tonight. In Math, we learned more about division. We discussed how to divide unequal groups. There is Math homework tonight. We had an assembly for the student council elections. We ended the day learning about slavery. The students conducted an "interview" with an influential African American.

Wednesday--Miss Calderone's class

Today we began our day correcting our D.L.P. and writing in our May journal. We used the word wall words to make a paragraph. When I discovered that many students chose not to do the paragraph, we wrote one together. We then learned a new cursive letter; U. After practicing for a bit we partnered up to complete a sheet on contractions. We then completed 3 centers. Our morning ended with social studies. We finished reading the chapter, completed a sheet on the vocabulary, and watched part of a movie on Harriet Tubman. After lunch we read Harry Potter for a bit and then switched for math. Today we reviewed patterns. We completed some pages in our math book, reviewed a bit of multiplication and division, and then had to switch back a bit earlier because we had the student council assembly. We went to the assembly and listened to each of the students that are running for student council. We went back to our classrooms, voted for the students, and then finished up the day taking our science test.

The homework for tonight is to study for the social studies test, read "Ruth", and complete math 28-6.

Tuesday--Miss Calderone's class

Today our day began correcting our D.L.P. and writing in our May journals about how a fossil is formed. After writing a paragraph together we learned the cursive letter T. We practiced for a little and then learned the vocabulary for the new story. We read Ruth Law Thrills a Nation together and discussed it. We really liked the story. We then completed 2 centers and finished the morning with social studies. We learned how to read a time line and made a second grade time line together. After lunch we switched for math and continued to practice multiplication and division. We used white boards to answer different math facts. We then went to art and finished the day with science. We completed a sheet on endangered and extinct species. We then watched a BrainPop Jr. video about it and together completed a hard and easy quiz. We got all of the answers correct!

The homework for tonight is to read Ruth Law, complete social studies page 55/56, and study for the science test tomorrow! The social studies test is on Thursday so pay close attention to the homework that was sent home!

Tuesday in Mrs. Bognetti's Class

Our day began with a review of the prefixes –un and –over. We cut out letters and made our spelling words. We also did a spelling practice sheet. We did DLP and two pages out of our practice book. We discussed the parts of a plane. We read Ruth Law Thrills the Nation. We got through two centers today. In Social Studies, we talked about Lewis and Clark. We learned about the pioneers of the West as well as how to read time line. In Math, we continued learning about division. We learned the cursive M and N. The students ended their day with Art. There is no homework tonight.

Monday in Mrs. Bognetti's Room

We started our day with Gym and Music. We had our spelling pre-test. We did two pages in our practice book. We did our DLP. We discussed the prefixes –un and –over. We learned about contractions. We got through three centers today. After lunch, we read Harry Potter. In Math, we learned about division. Both Math classes have homework tonight. In Social Studies, we talked about the thirteen colonies and Paul Revere. We read a very interesting book about Paul Revere. The talent show try-outs are tomorrow!

Monday--Miss Calderone's class

Today we began our day with Music and P.E. When we came back we corrected our D.L.P. and wrote in our May journal about what we did over the weekend. After sharing for a bit we learned the two new prefixes for this week's spelling list: over- and un-. We thought of some words with these prefixes together and then thought of their meanings. We then went back and took our spelling pretest. We went over the spelling words and then got out white boards to practice contractions. I put up two words that made the contraction and the students wrote the contraction on their white boards. We then did the exercise the other way. The students did an awesome job! After that we learned the new centers and finished the morning completing two centers. After lunch we read Harry Potter for a bit and then had math. We continued reviewing multiplication and division. After math we had science. We read the rest of the chapter and then spent the rest of the time completing a sheet reflecting what we learned. Our day ended with Media Center.

The homework for tonight is to get your reading test signed, complete math 28-5, and also study for your science or social studies test.

Friday--Miss Calderone's class

What a fast day! We started out the day correcting our D.L.P. and studying for our reading/spelling tests. We completed the last 3 centers for the week and then took our spelling test. We reviewed for our reading test by playing pictionary/charades for the vocabulary words. We took our reading test and then read the main article in a Time For Kids magazine. After that we learned the cursive letter R and then finished the morning with social studies. We reviewed information about the 13 colonies and then practiced reading a historical map together. After lunch we read Harry Potter for a bit and then switched for math. We continued reviewing for multiplication and division and today we checked our answers using a calculator! After math we had music and finished the day with celebration day. We watched a fun movie about Ancient Egypt.

The homework for the weekend is to study for the social studies and science tests. Please remember that we will be finishing up the chapters next week so some of the information we haven't covered. Please just reread and review information we have gone over. Have a great weekend!

Thursday in Mrs.Bognetti's Room

We had such a great time on the field trip yesterday. The students loved exploring the field museum! Today, we review VC and CV syllables. We did a spelling practice sheet to review for tomorrow's spelling test. We did our DLP and re-read Montigue on the High Seas. We reviewed our vocabulary. We learned more about helping verbs. We got through three centers today. We had book buddies with the fourth graders. After lunch, we read Harry Potter. In Math, we continued learning about multiplication. Miss Calderone’s class has homework, but my class does not. In Science, we worked in our “Dinosaur Sue” booklet. We discussed what clues Paleontologists use to identify dinosaurs. There is Science homework tonight. The students ended their day with Music. There is a Spelling test and a Reading test tomorrow.

Thursday--Miss Calderone's class

Today we began our day correcting our D.L.P. and writing in our May journal about the field trip. After sharing we jumped into centers. We completed 3 centers and in between the 2nd and 3rd center we learned a new cursive letter, Q. After centers we reviewed helping verbs and completed a grammar sheet on them. We then learned about homophones; different words that sound the same. We came up with some examples and then completed a sheet with partners. The students did an awesome job! We then moved on to social studies. We reviewed the reasons for the colonists wanting independence and then learned about westward expansion. We talked about Lewis and Clark and watched a short movie about their journey. After lunch we read Harry Potter for a bit and then had math. Today we started division! We did a lot of examples together and then the students worked independently to show me what they could do! The students did an excellent job for their first day of division. After math we had science. We completed a sheet that had us thinking about what clues fossils give us to tell us about animals from the past. Our day ended with P.E.

The homework for tonight is to read Montigue/study, complete the spelling packet/study, and my class has math 28-4. Also if your child wants to be in the talent show the slip is due tomorrow!

Wednesday--Miss Calderone's class

What a FUN day! We went to the Field Museum, watched a 3-D movie about dinosaurs, saw "Sue" and visited some other exhibits! We had a great time and the weather was beautiful! When we came back we had a snack and completed a project that had us cutting out dinosaur bones and putting them where we thought they went!

Tuesday--Miss Calderone's class

Today we began our day correcting our D.L.P. and writing in our May journal. We used the word wall words to write sentences and then projected the sentences on the screen. After sharing we learned the vocabulary for the story and then read Montigue on the High Seas. We really liked the story. We then reviewed helping verbs and completed a grammar sheet with a partner. Some partnerships did not finish in class so it is homework. We moved on to centers. We completed 3 centers and in between the second and third center we learned the cursive letter P. We finished the morning with Social Studies. We learned about the first 13 colonies and that the colonists fought to be free from a king. After lunch we switched for math and continued learning about multiplication. We learned that you can switch the numbers in a multiplication sentence and come up with the same answer. We practiced solving some multiplication problems. After math we went to art and finished the day with science. We read some more about dinosaurs and fossils and cut out mixed up sentences and put them in the correct order on how a fossil forms.

The homework for today is to read Montigue, complete the math sheet (only my math class), finish grammar 164 (if you didn't in class) and remember to bring a sack lunch for the field trip tomorrow! Please see the purple sheet that was sent home regarding information for tomorrow.

We had a very busy Monday! The students started their day with Gym and Music. We learned about the -aw and -au sound. We had our Spelling pre-test. We did our DLP. We learned about how to give and write directions. We got through two centers today. After lunch, we had silent reading. In Math, we learned about arrays. Both Math classes have homework. In Social Studies, we learned about colonies. We ended our day talking about dinosaur Sue! We are all getting excited for Wednesday's field trip!

Thursday in Mrs.Bognetti's Room

We started our day reviewing the "oo" sound. We reviewed our spelling and our vocabulary. We checked our DLP. We talked about author's purpose and how-to paragraphs. We got through three centers today. We had book buddies. After lunch, we had silent reading. In Math, we talked about repeated addition and multiplication. My class does not have homework, but Miss Calderone's class does. In Science, we learned more about fossils. We had four fossil stations. We learned about, looked at and even made fossils! The students really enjoyed it. The students ended their day with Music. We have a Spelling test and Reading Test tomorrow.

Today was a very fast day! We began our day correcting our D.L.P. and writing in our May journal. While we were doing that we had AIMSweb testing in the hallway. We continued on to complete 3 centers and then had literacy. We worked independently to complete a "Dinosaurs Travel" Scavenger Hunt! We looked for the vocabulary words, tips for travelers, and different ways of traveling. After that we reviewed verbs in present and past tense and practiced changing present verbs to past. We then learned another cursive letter; M. After that we had social studies. We learned about the first colonists to arrive in the Americas and the settlement of Jamestown. We then watched a very informative movie about the first colonists. The students really enjoyed it. After lunch we read Harry Potter for a bit and then had math. Today we continued working on multiplication. Some of us finished our multiplication drawings, but some need to finish them for homework. After math we had science. We read a Time For Kids magazine and then began the new chapter. We talked a bit about fossils and imprints. We practiced being scientists and tried to figure out different imprints in Play-Doh. After going over the answers many of the students figured them all out! Our day ended with P.E.

The homework for tonight is to read "Dinosaurs Travel"/study, complete the spelling packet/study, remember to bring your field trip money and form, and some students have math. Please remember that tomorrow is a half day!

Wednesday in Mrs. Bognetti's Class

We had another very busy day! We started the day off writing in our journals. We did a phonics review sheet. We checked our DLP. We reviewed our vocabulary and our spelling. We re-read Dinosaurs Travel and did a scavenger hunt. We got through three centers today. In Science we started learning about fossils! After lunch, we read Harry Potter. During Math, we learned about repeated addition and multiplication. In Social Studies, we made a large chart about Native Americans. The students ended their day by going to the Library. Next Wednesday we will be going to the Field Museum! Please sign and return the permission slip along with two dollars. There is Math, Science, and Social Studies homework tonight.

Wednesday--Miss Calderone's class

Today we started our day correcting our D.L.P. and writing in our May journals. We used the word wall words to write sentences and then shared what we wrote. After that we reviewed the verbs go, went, did, and do and then independently finished a grammar sheet. After turning that in we learned the cursive letter, L. We practiced writing for a bit and then had a mini math lesson about multiplication. Our computer center this week had us solving multiplication sentences so we needed to refresh our memories before playing. We completed 3 centers and ended the morning with social studies. We learned about the Powhatan, Sioux, and Pueblo Native Americans. We talked about where they lived, what they lived in, and the resources they used in their daily lives. We filled out our first vocabulary word of the unit, shelter. After lunch a student showed us a picture album she brought in. We had a great time looking at the really neat pictures! After that we switched for math. We continued to work with multiplication. This time we worked breaking down the multiplication facts. For example, 2+2+2=2x3. We did some examples together and then worked on white boards to practice. Many students caught on quickly! Library was after math and we finished the day with our Book Buddies.

The homework for tonight is to read Dinosaurs Travel, S.S. pg. 49/50, math 28-1, get the science test signed, and also get your field trip permission slip and money turned in as fast as possible!

Tuesday--Miss Calderone's class

Today our day started correcting our D.L.P. and writing something special for Celebration of Learning tonight. We then learned about 4 new verbs: go, went, do, and did. We used sentences to identify if they are used in the present or past. We worked with partners to complete a grammar sheet and then corrected it together. After that we learned the vocabulary for the story. We looked at some pictures of cassettes on the Internet because many of the students did not know what a cassette is! We read and discussed the story Dinosaurs Travel together. We finished the morning with 3 centers. After lunch we changed right away for math. We continued learning about multiplication. We did some review on the board and then independently worked on an activity that had us drawing pictures and matching them to multiplication facts. We will continue to work on that tomorrow. After math we switched for art and finished the day taking our science test.

The homework for tonight is to sign the reading and math tests, read Dinosaurs Travel, complete math homework (if you had it), and remember to come to Celebration of Learning tonight! I hope to see you all there!

We had a very busy day! We started our day getting ready for the Celebration of Learning. We reviewed the "oo" sound. We reviewed our spelling words and learned our vocabulary. We made a web about ways to travel. We did our DLP and a spelling practice sheet. We read Dinosaurs Travel. We got through two centers today. In Social Studies, we learned some new vocabulary words. We made flashcards for the words. In Math, we continued learning about multiplication. My class does not have any homework, but Miss Calderone's class has homework. The students ended their day with Art. Tonight is the Celebration of Learning. It is from 6:00 to 7:30.

Monday in Mrs. Bognetti's Room

The students started their day with Gym and Music. During Literacy, we learned about words with the "oo" sound. We had our spelling pre-test. We learned about how to write a "how to paragraph." We got through two centers today. After lunch, we had silent reading. In Math, we started learning about multiplication in Chapter 28. At the end of the day the students had their MAP Math test. Tomorrow is Celebration of Learning night. It is from 6:00 to 7:30. Hope to see you there!

Monday--Miss Calderone's class

Today our day began with music and P.E. When we came back we corrected our D.L.P. and wrote in our May journals about what we did over the weekend. After sharing we learned the new "chunks" for this week: -ou and -ough (both make the "oo" sound). We made a list of words on the board containing those chunks and then read a poem and identified more words with the chunks. We took our spelling pretest and after correcting together we learned the cursive letter "K". We practiced for a bit and then learned about the new centers. We were able to complete one center this morning. After lunch we went into the computer lab and took our last M.A.P.s test for the year! The students did SO WELL; I am so proud to be their teacher. We took a break after all that work and had indoor free time for about 15 minutes. When we came back to our desks we started learning about the very beginning steps for multiplication! We learned how to make equal groups by taking counters and making a certain amount of groups. We did some workbook pages together and then got ready to go home.

The homework for tonight is to complete math 28-1 and study for the science test tomorrow!

We began our day reviewing our grammar and vocabulary. We took our Spelling test and then had a snack. We got through two centers today. We took our Reading test and our Science test. Our morning was full of tests! After lunch we had silent reading. During Math, we took our chapter 27 test. The students had Gym and then we had celebration day! We have no homework this weekend.

In between our second and third center we learned a new cursive letter; J. After centers we had our spelling test and then reviewed the vocabulary for the story by playing charades/pictionary. We then took our reading test and finished the morning working on our special projects. After lunch our mystery reader came in and read us a really funny book! We had a great time! We then moved onto math. We reviewed for the chapter 27 test by completing some workbook pages with a partner and then took the test. After math we went to music and finished the day with celebration day.

The homework for the weekend is to read at least 20 minutes a day. We also will be taking our last M.A.P.'s test for the year on Monday! It will be a math test so make sure to keep practicing those facts! Have a wonderful weekend

Thursday--Miss Calderone's class

Today was a super busy day! We started the day writing in our May journal about why it is important to read over the summer and then corrected our D.L.P. After sharing our journals we completed 3 centers. After centers we finished reading Beginner's World Atlas and filled in the rest of our packet. The students took their packet home to look over and will turn them in tomorrow. We then went out into the hallway to present our Washington D.C. posters! The students read their paragraphs and showcased their projects. Everyone did an excellent job. We finished the morning with a "secret project"! After lunch we got our take home folders ready to go and then switched for math. We reviewed plotting coordinates and learned about a line graph. We made one together and then worked in our math book. We not only practiced drawing one, but also practiced reading it. After that we had science. We finished reading the chapter and discussed earthquakes, landslides, and volcanoes! Our day ended with P.E.

The homework for tonight is to read/study Beginner's World Atlas, spelling packet/study, math 27-4/study. We will have another test filled Friday but again, the students will do fine!

We had a very busy day! We reviewed our spelling and grammar. We made a web about what we have learned about maps. We got through two centers today. We had our Washington D.C presentations today. The students did a nice job of presenting their monument. Before lunch we had book buddies with the fourth grader. After lunch, we read Harry Potter. In Math, we learned about line graphs and bar graphs. We have a Math test, Reading test, Spelling test and Science test tomorrow! We reviewed for the tests today. Tonight is the Sock Hop! It is two dollars at the door and starts at 6:00.

Wednesday in Mrs. Bognetti's Class

We started our day reviewing our phonics and our spelling. We talked about using run and ran correctly. We finished reading Beginner’s World Atlas. The students are enjoying learning about maps. We got through three centers today. In Science, we talked about how earth changes. We learned about earthquakes, landslides, and volcanoes. There is a two sided sheet for homework. After lunch, we had silent reading. In Math, we learned about coordinate graphs. Both classes had homework. Some students may have finished in class. During Social Studies we sang a song about maps. The students loved singing! At the end of the day we went to the book fair. Tomorrow night is the “Sock Hop.” It is two dollars to attend. We will be having a Science test Friday.

Tuesday--Miss Calderone's class

Today our day started with correcting our D.L.P. and writing in our May journals. After sharing we learned a new cursive letter: H. After practicing a bit we learned about 4 new verbs; ran, run, come, and came. We used them in sentences and then decided whether they told about the past or present. We completed a grammar sheet with a partner and then regrouped to correct it. We then read some more or "Beginner's World Atlas" while filling out our fact/fiction packet. We will have the story done on Thursday so we can use the packet to study before the test. After that we completed 3 centers. Our morning ended finishing our Washington D.C. paragraphs. We are done! After lunch we headed straight to math. We reviewed range and mode and then learned about median. The most important thing that the students need to remember with median is that they MUST put the numbers in order from smallest to largest before finding the middle number. After math we went to art and finished the day with science. We reviewed erosion by completing a sheet together and then watched a short movie on Earth.

The homework for tonight is to read Beginner's World Atlas, complete math 27-2, bring book fair money, bring your sock hop form, and bring in any late yearbook payments. Also your completed starfish should be brought tomorrow if you forgot it today!

Tuesday in Mrs. Bognetti's Class

This morning we talked about what it would be like if we were flying. Then, we reviewed words with oo and ou. We wrote some words in our Quick Words and completed a workbook page. We learned our vocabulary words and practiced using them using a Power Point presentation. We learned about different resources such as a dictionary, atlas, encyclopedia, etc. We having been practicing using all three resources in class at center time and with our Washington, D.C. projects. Then, we completed our centers. We corrected two sentences of DLP and a workbook page using the correct forms of come and run in the present and past. We finished typing our Washington, D.C. reports today. In math, we learned about medians. We taught the students that the median is the number in the middle of a set. The students have one page of math homework. At the end of the day, the students went to art class. Don't forget that tomorrow we will visit the Book Fair. The books are Buy One, Get One Free.

Monday in Mrs. Bognetti's Room

This morning we worked on words with oo and ou sounding like "cook". We made a list of words and sorted them into columns. We completed a workbook page and introduced our spelling words. After we worked in our workbooks, we completed the DLP, talked about writing paragraphs, and present and past forms of "come" and "run". Then, we completed two centers. After lunch we read Harry Potter. We learned about range and mode in math class. The students have one page of homework. At the end of the day, we took our Reading MAP tests.

Monday--Miss Calderone's class

What a fast day! Today we began our day getting our new D.L.P., May journal and assignment sheet. We went to Music and P.E. and when we came back we corrected our D.L.P. and wrote in our May journals about how to do our best on the M.A.P.s test. After discussing we learned the new chunks for this week; -oo and -ou (both making the "ugh" sounds). We took our spelling pretest, corrected it together, and learned the vocabulary for the new story. It's a long story so we began reading today. We are also filling out a fact/fiction packet as we read to reinforce the information that we learned. We finished our morning with one center. After lunch we went straight to the computer lab to take our M.A.P.s test in reading. The students did so well focusing and not talking that we went outside for a ten minute break! When we came back we began math. Today we began chapter 27 and started out the chapter by learning about range (highest # - lowest #) and mode (. We looked at sets of numbers and figured out the range and the mode and then completed some pages in our math book.

The homework for tonight is to sign the reading and math test, complete math 27-1, bring back the starfish (by Wednesday), and remember to return any sock hop forms or yearbook forms.
