March 13th

After we wrote in our journals today, we practiced working with contractions. Then, we reread our story Good-bye, Curtis.  Afterwards, we went to the library.  We had centers/guided reading.  In Science, we learned about the layers of the rain forest.  We also did an explore activity to show how certain animals protect themselves (find shelter) in a rain forest.  We started making models of rain forests, but will continue another day.  This afternoon we started a new chapter book, The Power of Poppy Pendle.  The students really enjoyed the first chapter and we discussed the problems presented thus far.  We continued to work on our Washington, D.C. projects.  Some groups are done with their paragraphs and are starting to type.  In math, we did some problem solving using clocks and elapsed time.  There is math homework.   The Spelling Packet is due tomorrow.
