Monday in Mrs. Bognetti's Room

This morning we practiced changing words with a "y" to an "i" and then added -ed. We learned that those endings can make two different sounds. We completed a workbook page, introduced our spelling words, and completed a spelling page in class. We did our DLP. Then, we talked about how to write a friendly letter including the date, greeting, body, closing and signature. We also learned about subjects of sentences. We completed two centers today, as well. In Science, we re-read our lesson about volcanoes, earthquakes, and landslides. We watched a video clip of Mt. Vesuvius and learned the story of its eruption 2,000 years ago. The children were quite intrigued. They have one page of science homework to help them practice their vocabulary words. We will have our first Science test by the end of the week covering the water cycle, erosion, and this lesson on volcanoes, earthquakes, and landslides. This afternoon, we read some more of Harry Potter. We also used doubles to help us add and subtract. We watched a clip on brainpopjr.com to help us learn how to solve problems with doubles plus one. We practiced learning our doubles in class. The students have one page to finish for homework. In Social Studies, we worked in our Illinois booklets. We talked about and used a color code to find our neighboring states; Wisconsin, Indiana, Kentucky, Iowa and Missouri. We also solved a word puzzle containing places in Illinois. At the end of the day, the students went to gym class.
