Tuesday in Mrs. Bognetti's Class

This morning we wrote in our journals what it would be like if we owned an apple orchard. The students had some good ideas! Then, we reviewed words with 00. We completed a word scramble in class and a workbook page that we corrected together. The students have one page of spelling homework. Then, we discussed the meanings of our vocabulary words and watched a Power Point presentation using those words. We did a KWL chart about trees. We wrote down what we know about trees, what we want to know about trees and later we will write down what we learned about trees. We talked about the different between facts and fiction. Then, we read the first section of our story The Secret Life of Trees. In partners, the students completed 14 comprehension questions using that section. At the end of literacy, we completed a workbook page about proper nouns...holidays! We capitalized both the holiday and the word "day". This afternoon was very exciting. First, we learned to add numbers and regroup using tens and ones blocks. The students have one page of math homework. Then, we learned our first cursive letter "i"! The children were very excited, but I reminded them to only practice cursive on the worksheets that I give them. We don't want to start any bad habits before we learn the correct way to write the letters! They CANNOT write their names until they have learned all the letters in their name. At the end of the day, the students had art class.
