Monday--Miss Calderone's class

What a fast day! We began our day writing in our March journal about what we did over the weekend. We had to go to music and P.E. so we finished our journals and shared when we got back. After that we learned how to use a grid and then followed directions to draw a picture using only grid clues (B3, D1, K5, etc.). The picture ended up being an umbrella! Check our your child's take home folder for the activity. We then took our Banner Days Theme 1 test. The students did so well. Our day ended doing a cutting activity in preparation for something tomorrow. After lunch we read Harry Potter for a bit and then had math. In math we reviewed congruent shapes really quickly and then learned about lines of symmetry. We identified lines of symmetry on different shapes and also picked out shapes that have NO lines of symmetry. The students caught on very fast, but it was hard to find the lines of symmetry for shapes with multiple lines! After finding lines of symmetry, we learned how to use a line of symmetry to draw the missing half of an object. We independently finished pictures and then went over them together. The students did a great job! After math we had science. We reviewed the organs and parts of the body that we learned already and then learned about the heart. We watched a movie on Brain Pop and then took a quiz. Our day ended with Media Center.

The homework for tonight is to sign the reading test (which by the way I have never had so many A's!!!!) and also complete math 20-2 (my math class only). Because this is a theme week there will be NO STORY OR SPELLING LIST/PACKET. We will be working on genres of stories and comprehension this week.
