Thursday--Miss Calderone's class

Today we started out correcting our D.L.P. and writing in our journals. After sharing we reviewed verbs and comparing words and completed a grammar sheet with a partner. We came together to correct it and then took our school photo outside! When we came back we learned a new cursive letter, m. After writing for a bit we completed a narrative elements chart (see take home folder). After that we wrote our rough draft for our senses paragraph about our home. Some students worked so hard they even finished their final drafts! We then moved onto social studies. We reviewed mayor, governor, and president, and then learned about the 3 branches of government. We made a tree in our social studies notebook to help us remember the 3 branches. We finished our morning with 2 centers. After lunch we read Harry Potter for a bit and then had math. We reviewed what we learned yesterday and then spent the rest of the time learning how to do Sudoku. Everything has been so easy for the students this chapter I felt they needed a little challenge! We did some of a puzzle together and many of the students caught on. It is difficult, but I think they all really enjoyed being challenged. After math we had science. We reviewed the brain and heart and even saw some real pictures of the organs! We then began coloring a brain and heart cut-out but ran out of time. We finished the day with P.E.

The homework for tonight is to complete the spelling packet/study, math 21-4, Read Pine Park/Study, and bring any picture forms. Remember tomorrow is picture day!
