Thursday--Miss Calderone's class

Our day began writing in our journals. Today was a free write so the students could write about whatever they chose. After sharing we learned two new cursive letters; o and c. We then got our genre packet out and reviewed the genres realistic fiction and story. We found the stories that matched those genres and glued them onto the appropriate parts. After that we reviewed story elements and independently completed a sheet which we then went over together. After that we jumped into social studies. Within the next couple weeks we will do a large study on Washington D.C. Today we researched and made a list of very important monuments and memorials in Washington D.C. We wrote letters to request information about a monument of our choice and put our address on the envelope. The letters will go out tomorrow so make sure you have your stamped envelope here! Our morning ended with centers. After lunch we read and FINISHED Harry Potter! We then had math where we learned about area. We practiced finding the area of shapes in our math book and on a separate sheet. We worked so quickly that we were able to finish our homework in class! After math we attempted to watch some of the Harry Potter movie....unfortunately something happened with the DVD and we were unable to watch any more of it :( We tried different things, but it never worked. Our day ended with P.E.

The homework for tonight is to read for 20 minutes!
